Post by Official Post »

95th Rifles Living History Society representing
1st Battalion 95th (Rifle) Regiment of Foot (1/95) will be particpating in this year's re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo, Sunday 18 June 1815, at the actual locations in Belgium. It will not be on the scale of 2015 and will be much more compact but with exciting small-scale battles at Hougoumont.

The multi-National, Allied Army will be camped at Hougoumont Farm.
Itinerary:
Saturday 17 June
0900 Camp opens to public
1000 Parade for Inspection
1100 Parade of Remembrance, Hougoumont
1800 Camp Closes
1900 Battle in Hougoumont woods
2000 Battle finishes.

Sunday 18 June
0900 Camp opens to public
1030 Battle of Hougoumont
1130 Battle finishes
As well as the living history encampment and re-enactment battle, there are numerous sites, museums and monuments to visit, for example:
At Waterloo itself, is Wellington's HQ which is now an excellent museum.
At Le Caillou, Napoleon's overnight HQ, a museum with interesting artifacts!
The Waterloo Visitor's Centre, next to the Lion Mound situated between the Allied centre and right flank - you can't miss it!
La Haie Sainte, the farm just in front of the Allied centre that was defended by the King's German Legion and only taken at 6pm when they ran out of ammunition. This is a working farm but still retains many of it's original features that survived the battle.
The Hanovarian Monument, slightly up and across the road from La Haie Sainte, is roughy on the site of the old Sand Pit where the 1/95 fought during the battle. A sacred site to our Society. We will be sure to give our respects there.
